For me smoking cigs went to beer and then pot experimentally and then to the mind altering type of "recreational" drugs of the early 70's. Thankfully, that part of my life did not last long. I still smoke cigs (actually quit for ten years). However, it has been the time above long since I have experienced any "it" in any way. I have believed for sometime (no expert here!) that those prone to addiction have a "gene" strong toward or genes strong toward a particular addiction.
